Highwoods Academy joined Empowering Minds in 2017, they are a small school of near 200 pupils based in Mexborough in Doncaster.
We met with an engineer from WSP who explained what civil engineering was. We were then given a brief to follow and were tasked with designing a bridge. Children then worked in small groups to build the bridge, then finally the bridges were tested to see how much weight they could support. The winning team was then announced.
The children relished the challenge and were truly inspired by the visitors.
